Darren, you were an inspirational and wonderful guy. Relentlessly helpful and kind-hearted. This is a memory of a minor event but it’s one I keep thinking of: I once mentioned to you that I was struggling to fill a big gap in the agenda for our next forum, and without prompting or hesitation you volunteered yourself to write some slides, give a talk and lead a Q&A session; partly because you cared about your work, but mostly because you wanted to help me out. Because you were a rare mix of professionalism and, above all else, humanity. I’m very sad that our paths won’t cross again. Claire, James and Josh, I’m so sorry. It’s entirely unfair.
